How we Worship
Lifting Our Voices, Grounded in Truth

The Worship team at First Baptist Church of Cairo consists of individuals who are passionate about God, love Him, and know Him through the work of the cross and the power of the resurrection. Through a calling from God, we serve Him through biblical Worship, celebration, and praise, while encouraging others to do the same.
There are many definitions written that help us understand what Worship is. William Temple gave a detailed definition of Worship many years ago: “Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness; the nourishment of mind with His truth; the purifying of imagination by His beauty; the opening of the heart to His love, the surrender of will to His purpose-and all of this gathered up in adoration, the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin. Yes, Worship in spirit and truth is the way to the solution of perplexity and to the liberation from sin.”
Worship recognizes the working power of God in our lives through Christ’s death on the cross and submits to His Lordship as King of kings and Lord of lords. For each of us, it calls us to become “a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1-2) not only corporately but also in our daily lives.
We serve and lead out of God’s grace, which is expressed through His presence within us (1 Peter 4:10). The music and arts ministries support the church’s purposes through their work in missions, teaching, worship, evangelism, stewardship, and fellowship.
Praise Team
The praise team comprises a group of musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists) and technical personnel (sound, lighting, and projection) who work together to encourage the Body of Christ to worship both as individuals and in community. The focus of the praise team is mainly on our 10:30 AM worship service. We are always looking for team members who are called, gifted, and skilled to help serve in all these capacities. We are ready to train and help anyone willing to serve. Our Praise Team meets on Wednesday evening from 6:15 to 7:15 to practice and at 9:20 AM on Sunday to prepare for the 10:30 worship service.
Choir and Early Worship Team
FBC Choir leads our early worship services and includes Choir (vocalists), pianist, and technical personnel (sound, lighting, and projection). Our choir meets to practice at 7:45 AM in the chapel before the 8:15 worship service. This service focuses on worship, praise, and proclamation, utilizing our hymnal. We would love to have you in the choir singing and praising God. Join us!
Tech Team
Our Tech Team is always working alongside most events during worship and at other times. Our tech team is working to make sure the meaning and message can be clearly understood through sound, lighting, and media. A variety of technical skills are employed, ranging from audio mixing, computer skills, streaming, lighting, projection and video production. We will provide training for those who are interested in serving on the Tech Team.
Creative Arts
Writing, music composition, plays, dramas, art, recording, and many other creative expressions, while sometimes combining all these areas to share God’s word creatively, and through artistic means, share our testimonies of how God has worked in our lives. Creativity is essential in the music and arts ministry of First Baptist Church.
Preschool
Our preschool music ministry meets on Wednesday evenings at 5:45 in the preschool building. We use Orff instruments, sing, move, celebrate, worship, pray, and learn about God and all He has done for us.
Children
Our children come together at different times during the year (Christmas, VBS) with drama and musicals. For more information, please visit our Children’s Ministry.
Drama Ministry
Our drama group meets at announced times during the year on Sunday afternoons after church. It is open to all ages. They share during Worship services, community events, special church events such as VBS, and other times during the year (Christmas, Easter).
